If I buy a print or an original piece of art can I use it in a book I am writing? Or can I reproduce it, like copy it for a card or stationary?
Mostly No, but a little bit Yes. First the No part: you may not copy any piece of artwork even if you buy an original piece of artwork, as the copyright is only for you to use the piece in it's original form, such as a drawing. You can't buy a calendar, and take it apart, and use each piece as artwork. Now, for the Yes part: If you buy a piece of jewelry, you may use it as either jewelry, or you may add it to something, such as using a pendant as a headress on a doll you have made. Or you could hang an amulet off of a staff. Cool huh?
Where can I get more information on the copyright laws?
Thank you for asking. As all of Christine's artwork is registered with the US Copyright Office. Copyrighting a piece of artwork protects the original artist from anyone steeling or using their artwork without paying for that use. If someone does use the artist's work without paying for it, then the artist may sue that person, and gain not only the cost of the artwork, but also extensive damages, based on what that art would or could have brought the artist.
